It takes an incredible woman to serve in the military to begin with. To choose to be in a combat role they are one of two things: extremely motivated or, as my teenage daughter would say, “friggin crazy.”

I admire them for their determination. It’s everything to take care of my family as a stay-at-home mother. I can’t imagine being called to deploy and leaving my children to go to war. The sacrifice my husband makes for God and country are enough for our family.

Most of these women are married to service members as well so if they are both deployed simultaneously then they have to call in grandparents or friends. That requires a larger commitment than I would be prepared for.

Also, many of the women Marines I know are pursuing more education. That’s a balancing act that is unique to these special women. Military service. Family. Education.
They already pushed the bar. I’m not going to tell them what they can’t do.

I don’t tell my husband how to be a Marine either. I expect that the Marine Corps will utilize them appropriately. Not every female Marine wants to be placed in a combat situation anyway.
